A dynamic water-privileged community, Eastport boasts a unique history. In 1998, when the residents felt that their community would be jeopardized by the temporary closing of the Eastport Bridge for repairs, they “seceded” from Annapolis, and the Maritime Republic of Eastport (MRE) was created. A “war” in the form of an annual tug-of-war that raises money for charity was established. The event has since become a popular time-honored tradition. This vibrant community offers a variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment opportunities as well as close proximity to downtown Annapolis, which is located just across the bridge.
