A dynamic water-privileged community, Eastport boasts a unique history. In 1998, when the residents felt that their community would be jeopardized by the temporary closing of the Spa Creek drawbridge for repairs, they “seceded” from Annapolis, Maryland, and the Maritime Republic of Eastport (MRE) was created. A “war” in the form of an annual tug-of-war that raises money for charity was established. The event has since become a popular time-honored tradition. Waterfront homes may border Spa Creek, Back Creek, or the Severn River where it meets the Chesapeake Bay. Eastport offers a variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment opportunities as well as close proximity to downtown Annapolis, accessible by water-taxi, car or even a short stroll across the bridge.
