With more snow on the ground in Annapolis than we’ve seen in many years and cold temperatures, the coziness of home feels even more essential. With the tremendous loss for many from the LA fires, we remind ourselves every day how grateful we are to have a roof over our heads and a place where we can gather with those we love. For us, as goes the expression, the kitchen is the heart of the home, especially as temperatures drop and we spend more time inside. It’s a haven where ingredients come together to create something delicious and nourishing.
This love for the kitchen and culinary experiences comes from generations past: Reid’s mother grew up in Saratoga, California, where they had orchards in the yard and the freshness of ingredients was a foundation of each meal (and avocado toast was for breakfast before it became trendy!). Growing up, Meagan learned to cook from her grandmother, who remains an inspirational hostess. The art of cooking and entertaining at home is an opportunity to share such an intimate and lovely experience; it’s meaningful and truly unique. The best part is that kitchen size doesn’t matter — while living in NYC, Meagan organized a Sunday Supper Club where she would host groups of friends in her one-bedroom apartment and prepare the food in a small galley-style kitchen.
With Valentine’s Day coming up and so much happening in the world around us, we’re reminded of the importance of sharing your love and appreciation for those you care about, even in the simplest ways. For us, this is often expressed by preparing and sharing a meal.
