This Mother’s Day, Meagan and Reid are each honoring the powerful women — mothers and businesswomen — who have shaped them with their strength and integrity and continue to lead by example.
Reflections from Reid:
Seeing my mother, BJ, work the entirety of my growing up set an example of what’s possible. It takes perseverance, self-reliance, and a certain amount of confidence — particularly in her era. I didn’t cut class in college because I thought about how hard she worked so I could be there, and that has informed my parenting decisions with my daughters, Meagan and her older sister Kelly. I always encouraged them to strive to be the best they could be through hard work but to keep kindness at the forefront. It doesn’t “pay” to get ahead by stepping on somebody else.
Reflections from Meagan:
My mom’s career with my dad at Mr. Waterfront was an incredible example of how you can work with your partner and weave what you do into your life. Going out on the boat on Saturday morning and returning in time for Sunday soccer games and real estate appointments was a weekend staple: this balance of family time and careers was a non- negotiable that I appreciate much more now that I have a different perspective and am equally immersed in the world of real estate. Similarly, my grandmother BJ is an extremely strong woman who had an amazing and enduring career and an insatiable appetite for adventure and life.
What I admire most about my mom and grandmother is their ability to navigate life and their careers with resilience and purpose — a life skill that has informed how to show up fully as a partner, daughter, granddaughter, friend and real estate professional, in each case committed to empathy, hard work and deep collaboration.
